IVF is a fantastic treatment that helps thousands of couples conceive every year. It is however a difficult process to go through and can often be emotionally, physically and financially draining. The success rates of IVF are also limited, and success cannot be guaranteed. Most couples therefore want to go through the process as few times as possible. By living healthily and by including treatments such as Acupuncture or Reflexology alongside IVF, you are doing everything you can do to proactively enhance the chances of success.
Some of the positive effects of acupuncture in Infertility treatment are thought to include:
Yes, you should get testing done if you have been trying for over a year. If you are over age 35, then after 6 months of trying. I may ask for copies of your tests, and your partner's if he has had tests also.
Yes. Acupuncture is used very commonly alongside IVF and most fertility clinics are either pro acupuncture or indifferent to it but very few are against the idea. GP's are coming round to the idea and recommending it now for fertility. This treatment is designed to be a complement to your IVF and should not be in opposition to your IVF clinic.
Acupuncture is considered to be a very safe treatment provided it is administered by a qualified professional, like myself. The most common side effect is the occasional bruise, which is more common when a patient is on blood thinners. You can feel slightly (and pleasantly) relaxed after treatment in which case it is advisable to take things slowly, and keep hydrated. There is a small risk of a needle shock which is extremely rare, but has the possibility of making you feel dizzy or feeling faint - but this is very rare.
The ideal course of preparatory treatment is three months before (or 8-12 sessions). Your journey will take a little while, and we need to prepare your body for this. Consistency is the key. You ideally want to start having treatments once or twice weekly, to make sure everything is balanced, strong and healthy before you become pregnant. I will set up a treatment plan with you. You need to be committed.
If you are opting for IVF we will need to plan in an appointment for either the day before, or on the same morning of your transfer, and then again post transfer on the same day. And then again 1 week later to help the embryo embed.
Yes Acupuncture can have a positive impact on sperm count, morphology and mobility. When treating infertility it is vitally important that the male partner gets a sperm analysis. Males usually need at least 12 sessions. Regardless, it may be beneficial for both partners to receive regular acupuncture treatments.
It is known that stress has an adverse effect on the fertility hormones. Acupuncture can be used to strengthen the constitution, thus enabling couples to cope with any stress and anxieties they may experience during the process of trying to start a family. The acupuncture treatment can help promote a calm, positive, relaxed frame of mind, which can bring a more successful outcome for conception.
Yes. Acupuncture can be used to minimise the side effects of drugs such as headaches, fatigue, palpitations, pain or anxiety as they arise. I will alter treatment depending on the feedback you give. Most patients suffer less side effects during IVF treatment.
Your first appointment will include a lengthy and in-depth consultation/forms with your initial treatment. This first appointment may last approx. 90 minutes and is £165. Individual dietary advice will be given to you (using food as medicine) following my TCM Diagnosis. Also Western and Chinese Herbal supplements, or medicinal mushrooms may be recommended. Ancient Japanese tips are given, and private blood tests may also be suggested.
Patients that persevere and follow all of the advice that is given to them, are usually the ones most fortunate to go on to have a live birth.
Your follow up appointments will be up to 1hr and will cost £75.
If you need your IVF pre-embryo transfer or post embryo transfer appointment OUT OF HOURS (on an evening or weekend) , YOUR SESSIONS WILL COST £110. (If you have had more than 12 sessions of fertility acupuncture with me, your pre and post sessions will be the same cost at £75)
If I can't facilitate you for your embryo transfer appointments, every effort will be made to move you to one of my colleagues at a different clinic
PLEASE NOTE: I STRICTLY ONLY WORK 'OUT OF HOURS' FOR PRE AND POST-EMBRYO TRANSFER DAYS ONLY. No other acupuncture appointments are available for out of hours
What is seed cycling?
Seed cycling is where you eat certain seeds at certain times of your cycle. It supports hormonal balance and potentially address fertility concerns.
It is divided into 2 phases - the follicular phase and the luteal phase.
During the follicular phase (the first half of the menstrual cycle), you eat a combination of ground flaxseeds and pumpkin seeds.
During the luteal phase (the second half of the menstrual cycle), which starts after ovulation, you eat a combination of sesame seeds and sunflower seeds.
Doing this benefits your menstrual regularity and fertility.
